The Weight of Waiting

We were commissioned by Dance City to work with their 3rd Year BA(hons) Professional Dance students on a 3-week creative residency.

Drawing from the students’ current experiences, awaiting the end of their degree and looking ahead to what was coming next, we delved into a physical theatre process driven by emotions and intention.

What do 6 strangers have in common when their train is mysteriously delayed?

Some are keen to move forwards, others reluctant to leave. Left in limbo, does the long wait offer a pause for reflection, or does a ticking clock only add to the building anxiety of what’s to come?

Student Feedback

My residency time with Pelican Theatre has been an incredible experience from start to finish. I have thoroughly enjoyed their creativity and flexibility when it comes to understanding us as individuals, as well as their sense of having fun and playing with silliness. I felt pretty much immediately comfortable around Pagan and Ellie, and I truly felt they were incredibly supportive of each and every one of us.

Pelican have been really good at listening to us and working with how we prefer to move but also, they challenged us to work and move differently. They had fun engaging tasks and games that lifted our mood and helped us engage with the day. They helped me become more open minded and I'm glad I trusted the process because it all made sense by the end result.

Working with Pelican Theatre has been an incredible experience. I have not only learnt so much about difference forms of performing but also about myself. I have learnt how breath can change and influence your movement and how using different creative inputs can change your creative outputs. I have learnt to not take myself seriously but to always take the task seriously!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time working with Pelican Theatre. They challenged and pushed me to my potential while also creating a safe and fun environment. I have learned a lot about myself since working with them.
